"They Are All Bastards Except Us" is the debut album by Steady Owl. The nine songs have an arc over the course of the record with a tongue in cheek charm influenced by bands like The Smiths and REM. The melodic songs fall between Brit melancholy, 90's favorites and American indie. Co-Produced by Aaron Hunt and Mastered by the renowned Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Artic Monkeys) the album breathes the authentic vibe of the late night recording expressions that the songs were originally conceived in.

ABOUT

Steady Owl is the alter ego of self-described late bloomer Roy Shrum. With a knack for crafting compelling songs supported by intricate guitar work and a unique voice he is joined by longtime friends Jon Wiest on drums and Jeremy Cullum on keys. Shrum and Wiest share a storied history of playing together in various bands over the years as a formidable rhythm section with Shrum on bass. The duo met while attending college in Phoenix, Arizona where Wiest studied drums under storied Jazz drummer Dom Moio and were fast friends. The debut album, "They Are All Bastards Except Us," released October, 2023. Featuring nine songs the record is the result of the artistic synergy between Shrum and his longtime collaborator. Influenced by bands such as The Smiths, R.E.M., and Radiohead, the album pays homage to these inspirations while firmly maintaining it’s own quality. The melodic songs fall between Brit melancholy, 90's favorites and American indie. Co-Produced by Aaron Hunt and Mastered by the renowned Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Artic Monkeys), the resulting sound is distinctive but in a way that the songs become instant favorites. Tongue-in-cheek turns of phrase and occasional unexpected musical turns revolve around a core of solid song crafting.
